Make Bosnia and Herzegovina a Better Place for Business!

Since our founding in 2015, Restart has become the preeminent diaspora initiative working to bring more good jobs to Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have achieved this through our annual Reconnect networking event, the LEADER entrepreneurial bootcamp, our partnership with USAID to manage the Diaspora Invest portal and capture investors’ stories and by providing investors with the detailed intelligence that they need with our Foreign Investors’ Navigator. None of this would be possible without people like you: successful business people in the diaspora and committed friends of a brighter future for BiH.

In early 2020, we finalized an ambitious four-year strategic plan. A key pillar of this plan is to implement our vision to create new jobs by connecting companies looking for business process outsourcing to qualified BiH providers, and to do it on a commercial basis so that we can sustain Restart. In order to do this, we conducted market research, hired skilled sales staff and registered Restart d.o.o. Restart continues its transformation into a social enterprise, but a non-profit one established by the BAFA association and run by a volunteer board. Despite the strong headwinds of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn, Restart was able to secure start-up funding from MarketMakers. These very factors created renewed interest in remote work and an economic opportunity for BiH companies.

Restart Success Stories

„Naša djeca - Our kids in Bosnia and Herzegovina“

  • The BIH Diaspora is the initiator of numerous philanthropic initiatives in BiH.
  • Naša djeca started when BiH diaspora Indira Alikalfić, Amra Škaljo Lundberg, Lana Kulaš and Davorka Kulaš visited Mostar with the desire to meet children who are placed in foster homes. After seeing the difficult conditions in which they live, they decided to organize with a group of women in the diaspora and raise money to establish the organization "Naša djeca - Our kids in Bosnia and Herzegovina". Today, there are three organizations of the same name in different places, which have the same mission: Vara barn in Sweden, Our Kids in the UK and Our Kids in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Mostar.
  • In 2016, Vara Barn turned to Restart to enable the long-term self-sustainability of Our Kids (Mostar). Restart identified the problems, prepared the reorganization and restructuring plan and led the transformation to a commercially sustainable model.
  • As a result of Restart’s efforts, Our Kids started with a commercial project, the Guesthouse Naša djeca in the centre of Mostar and doubled the revenue of the organization in a year. Staff grew from four volunteers to nine full-time employees.

  • This additional revenue enabled them to continue their support to beneficiaries that turn 18 and help them to gain practical experience and help them on their path to independence.
  • During the period of three years, more than 10 Naša djeca beneficiaries gained real hands-on experience, learning about the hospitality trade from hosting guests from all over the world, cleaning, preparing their meals and receiving payments. Through their work at the Guesthouse, they gained many professional skills, as well as the opportunity to work and gain life experiences that have been helpful to them in building their personalities, self-confidence and future business relationships.

Commercial projects

We provided fully-prepared “turnkey solutions” for a number of companies and foreign and diaspora investors. Here are a few of the standouts:

  • SAMSIC LLC - We provided general legal consulting and the company has shown remarkable growth in both staff and revenue. In 2017, it started with 4 employees and this number increased to 39 in 2019 and almost tripled its revenue in three years to hit BAM 1,3 Million in 2019.
  • Finex LLC - Finance Consulting Company owned by two (2) American and one (1) Bosnian citizens; Restart led the whole process of the company’s registration and it has experienced steady revenue growth since then and grew from BAM 27,361 to BAM 52,049 in 2019.
  • Informatica LLC - Informatic Engineering Company; Restarted provided pre-registration service and the company has experienced steady revenue growth in the last three years, growing from BAM 259,156 to BAM 346,779 in 2019.
